Weekend Wanderer: Hallmark Resort Cannon Beach Hotel
Last weekend, Jason and I decided to go on a spontaneous weekend getaway to a Cannon Beach Hotel on the Oregon Coast!! A place I’ve always DREAMED of going to, this gorgeous beach town surely did not disappoint! Cannon Beach is just a quick 4-hour drive from Seattle, and 1.5-hours from Portland, so if you live in the PNW you’ll have no trouble at all leaving after work on Friday night to get there, and making it back home mid-Sunday afternoon like we did.
We’ve been wanting to go on more weekend getaways this year, to experience more places and spend some time out of the city! Cannon Beach is a place I’ve always seen in travel magazines, on Pacific Northwest ads, on Instagram, and in gorgeous photos online. The Oregon Coast certainly has a reputation of being one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I’m here to tell you why you NEED to make it a top priority on your Pacific Northwest destinations list!
Hallmark Resort & Spa
There are many inns, small hotels, and Airbnb options in Cannon Beach, but we opted for the famous Hallmark Resort & Spa right on the water!! They are the closest resort on the beach to Haystack Rock, the ONLY resort on the beach with a connected spa, recently remodeled rooms, stunning balcony views of the water, and they are extremely dog-friendly which was a BIG big plus for us!! We always love bringing Shadow on our adventures and letting him experience new places. He even received a doggie gift bag when we arrived, with a frisbee, water bottle and bowl, cookies, and a mud towel – all complimentary!
THINGS TO DO
There are plenty of hikes, boutiques, coffee shops, breweries, and small town beach charm to enjoy in Cannon Beach. After spending a relaxing morning in the room, we walked down to the the beach, and had an amazing lunch at the Wayfarer Restaurant & Lounge. Their clam chowder, crab louie salad, fish and chips, and warm apple crumble were all SO incredible, with stunning views of the beach, I could have spent all evening there!!
After lunch, we wanted to make one last stop before heading back. Just a quick 8 minutes north of the town, we drove to Ecola State Park, a top attraction in the area! Entrance into the park requires a $5 day-pass fee for vehicles (unless already have a $30 year pass from the Oregon State Park foundation) but it will give you spectacular south-facing views of the coast, Haystack Rock, Bird Rocks, and Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. We parked at the viewpoint parking lot and took the Indian Beach Trail to the lookout, just in time for sunset! WOW.
Relaxing Accommodations
Heading back to the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised with FREE freshly baked cookies in the lobby! Yes, every afternoon from 4-6pm, the Hallmark staff have warm cookies waiting for you in the lobby. After a long day on the beach exploring the area, we loved coming back and cozying up in our room. Even Shadow got a few dog cookies! Like I said, they really do treat their dog guests like any other guest, he had a great time!
It was about time to turn in for the night. We walked down the driveway to Pelican Brewery and got some takeout. After deciding to try their sausage pizza and a big salad we took it back to the room. Hallmark also has complimentary bags of microwave popcorn and movies to checkout from the lobby. So we grabbed a few goodies, turned on the fireplace in our room, and had the most relaxing night in!! One thing we didn’t take advantage of, but definitely wish we did, was their spa accommodations. You can book a full-body massage or facial, spend some time in the sauna, or swim in the pool. We even saw a big group of guests building a bonfire on the beach below the hotel. Hallmark’s iconic blue Adirondack beach chairs around the fire looked so fun!! This Cannon Beach hotel, definitely had the beachy resort vibe we were looking for.
If you’re looking for a fun weekend getaway nearby – I highly recommend Hallmark Resort & Spa! Jason and I had a blast at this Cannon Beach hotel, and we know you will too. We’re already planning on coming back sometime this summer!!
