Pacific Northwest Ballet’s Love & Ballet
Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending Pacific Northwest Ballet’s opening night of their most recent repertoire Love & Ballet. With four uniquely different pieces, PNB brings you on a journey throughout the evening that will have you swooning and bawling, thinking of that special someone. There is no doubt about the strength of the company dancers, and Pacific Northwest Ballet truly showcases that in this rep. With world class dancing, simple set and costume design, incredible choreography, and a full orchestra, the evening is set up to be a magical night to remember!
For those that don’t know, I am a professional dancer, and have been dancing ballet and contemporary since I was 5 years old. Alongside my dance classes, my mom and I have had season tickets to Pacific Northwest Ballet for 15+ years now, so I have had the incredible blessing of attending nearly every show I was in grade school. I know what you’re thinking, “that’s a LOT of ballet”, and it is!! I love it though, and have had so many incredible memories of evenings spent at the ballet – as a young child looking up to my favorite ballerinas, as a teenager starting pointé and finally feeling like an experienced dancer, and now as an adult dancing professionally and knowing what it takes to put in the time, dedication, blood, sweat, and tears to put on a full-length show. Even though I am a regular ballet-goer, there has always been something so special about attending, and with a rep like this there were no exceptions.
Pacific Northwest Ballet’s Love & Ballet takes you on a journey with four Acts – Christopher Wheeldon’s Tide Harmonic and After the Rain pas de deux, Benjamin Millepied’s Appassionata, and Justin Peck’s Year of the Rabbit. Combining 3 of this generation’s most sought after contemporary ballet choreographers is a treat in itself, but throw in a solo piano Beethoven sonata, and PNB has truly outdone themselves.
